Nemu, Mayuri's lieutenant, ends up giving him the antidote for the poison in return for the fact that he spared the captain's life by not aiming for his head (judging by the injuries Uryuu's attack inflicted on Mayuri, a hit to the head would have killed him instantly). Mayuri has no choice but to use phlebotinum to flee the fight.
